How the Video Player Works

Hi there! My name is Billy and I’m the Community Support Specialist here at Guitartricks.com. There have been some updates to the video player recently and I just want to make sure you know about all of the features.

If you want to make any adjustments to the video, you must first hover your mouse cursor over the video itself. Doing so will reveal the video toolbar. Besides the standard functions of play and pause, the toolbar gives you the option to change the video quality, playback speed, and looping.

Video Quality

In order to adjust the video quality, you must click on the icon that looks like this, , located near the bottom right corner of the video player.

Clicking on video quality icon will give you these options:

Auto - We’ll automatically adjust the quality for you based on your current internet connection

224p - Lowest quality

360p

540p

720p

1080p

4k - Best quality (recommended only if you have very fast internet and for fullscreen)

The higher the number, the better quality the video will be. Make sure to choose the quality that best suits your screen, and internet connection. Or you can just leave it on Auto and not worry about it.

Playback Speed

You can always find the speed options by hovering your mouse cursor over the video itself, and the options will be visible on the right side of the frame. They’ll look like this:

2.0x - The playback speed of the video will be twice as fast as normal

1.5x

1.0x - Normal speed

0.9x

0.75x

0.5x - Slowest playback speed, slow-motion

The speed options are there if you want to simply slow down the faster sections of a lesson, like a guitar solo or quick chord changes.

Increasing the playback speed may save you some time during the non-playing parts. You can adjust the speed at anytime during any lesson, so feel free to experiment with it.

Looping

The video player’s looping section is especially powerful if you want to learn a small section of a lesson. You can access the loop function by hovering your mouse cursor over the video and then clicking the button that says “Loop off”

If the button says “Loop off” that means the looper is turned off. When you click the button, the button will change to say “Loop on,” meaning the looper is turned on.

You’ll know the looper is on when two tabs appear on the video timeline. One tab will be labeled “A” while the other tab is labeled “B.”

“A” is the beginning of the loop and “B” is the end of the loop. You may drag the tabs along the video timeline so that it loops the portions that are in between the tabs.

Once the timeline finishes going from “A” to “B” it will jump back to “A” and loop that section of the video again. The video will continue to loop until you turn it off.

Fullscreen

If you want to make the video take up the entire screen, you can click on the fullscreen button located at the very bottom right corner of the video player. The icon looks like this:

Keyboard Shortcuts

If you press the question mark button, , located on the right side of the video player options, you can pull up some quick tips. One of the most useful tips are the keyboard short cuts. Check them out below:

Left: Skip back 10 seconds

Right: Skip ahead 10 seconds

A: Set loop start point ('A') to current video time

B: Set loop end point ('B') to current video time

R: Toggle looping

X: Reset Loop start and end points

Tap for Sound

For those accessing Guitartricks.com through a mobile web browser, like Google Chrome, you might have noticed that there is a “Tap for sound” display on the video. Google recently updated their web browser so that if a video automatically plays, like those on Guitartricks.com, you may have to tap the screen to get the sound.

If you use a desktop or laptop, lessons will play as they always have.

As always, if you have any questions about the video player, you can always contact us here
